An apostille seal is an international seal that provides legal force to a document that was issued in one country and is used in another.

What is a double apostille?

A document with a double apostille looks like a notarized translation of your document with the original apostille which is certified by the seal and signature of a notary. The second apostille is affixed directly to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on the notarized translation. This is essentially the same apostille only with a notarized translation, on which the apostille is also put.

Why do I need a double apostille?

Some countries do not trust the translation of a document with one apostille, therefore they require an apostille on the translation. In this case, the apostille confirms the authenticity of the notarized copy and translation and gives full legal force to your document.

On the other hand, the second apostille is placed in the official language of the country where the document will be used in order not to translate it already abroad. In other words, you are crossing the border with a complete set of ready-to-use documents.

For which countries do I need a double (second) apostille?

Countries requiring a double apostille:
If your country of submission is Italy, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, Portugal, Switzerland, Israel, Spain, then the affixing algorithm is as follows:
1. An apostille stamp is affixed to the original document.
2. The document is translated into the language you need and notarized.
3. And the last step is to submit your notarized copy with the translation to the Ministry of Justice.
