How do I get a statement of marital status (on unmarriage)?

In most countries of the world, a foreigner will not be able to conclude a marriage union without confirming their marital status and the absence of obstacles to marriage. So if you decide to get married outside of Ukraine, you cannot do without a statement of marital status.

Where can I get a statement of marital status?
This statement (it is also sometimes called an affidavit) is made by a notary: public or private.

What documents will be needed to obtain a statement of marital status?
The applicant will be required to provide a passport, an identification code and, if there was a previous marriage, a confirmation of divorce (a certificate of divorce or a court decision on divorce).

Does this statement need to be legalized?
If you are going to use a statement of marital status in another country, you will need a procedure of consular legalization or apostille affixing. Consular legalization is necessary if the country for which you are preparing the document is not included in the Hague Convention (Canada, China, UAE). An apostille is needed if the state has signed this convention (EU, CIS, USA).

What is the validity period of the application?
Each country has its own requirements for the duration of this document. As a rule, a certificate of absence of marriage has legal force from 1 to 3 months.

Is it possible to get this statement abroad?
The statement for marital status can be issued at the Embassy/Consulate of Ukraine in the country where you are located. However, an apostille cannot be affixed to such a document (an apostille is not affixed to any documents issued by embassies and consulates). Therefore, if you need to present your statement in another country, you can do this with a power of attorney.
