When can the Apostille seal be refused?

Apostille seal is a simplified version of the legalization of documents for use in other countries (in those that have signed the Hague Convention). However, there are cases when the affixing of this seal is refused.

Which documents cannot be apostilled?

• If the papers are related to commercial activities (for example, contracts), they will not be apostilled. In this case, you will have to resort to a more complex procedure – consular legalization.

• If the documents are not intended for export outside the country (for example, papers containing state secrets).

• If the original document does not contain all the necessary details. In this case, first you will need to change the data of the document (or replace it completely) and only then apply for an apostille again.

• If the seal and signature on the document are not authentic (inconsistent with the information and samples), and if the person who signed the document does not have the authority to do so.

• If the document is invalid or has lost its validity. And if the apostilling authority has suspicions whether this document is real or fake, then the case can be transferred to law enforcement agencies.
