Legalization of documents in the Central Department of the Ministry of Justice of Kyiv

When moving abroad, it is necessary to take a very careful approach to the preparation of documents, in particular, birth and marriage certificates. By themselves, these certificates can only be used in Ukraine.

The procedure of consular legalization is one of the ways to give a Ukrainian document legal force for use in another country. The second method is an Apostille seal of an international standard, which makes the document legal on the territory of the countries participating in the Hague Convention (EU, CIS, USA). If the country does not recognize this convention, then it is necessary to carry out the procedure of consular legalization.

How is the consular legalization of documents done?

Consular legalization consists of 4 stages:

  1. The certificate must be certified by the Department of Justice of the region where the document was issued. Then the stamp of legalization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is affixed to the original certificate.
  2. The certificate, already stamped, is translated into the language you need. The translation is notarized.
  3. A notarized translation is stamped first with the seal of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, then with the seal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
  4. After the above actions, the documents are submitted to the consulate for the final legalization procedure. The consular fee is paid.
