Singapore has joined the Hague Convention

The Apostille stamp, a simplified procedure for legalizing documents, will now be valid in Singapore.

On January 18, 2021, Singapore officially joined the Hague Convention of 1961. The Hague Convention for Singapore entered into force on September 16, 2021.

Singapore’s accession to the Hague Convention will facilitate the interaction of legal entities and individuals in international legal relations, and it will be easier for Singapore companies to participate in international business projects.

What is an apostille?
Apostille is a standardized form for confirming the legality of a document, it is affixed to official documents issued in a State party to the Convention for use abroad (in other countries that have ratified the Convention). Now official documents from Singapore will be accepted in more than 110 countries around the world, and apostilled documents from these countries will have legal force in Singapore.

Which authority affixes an apostille in Singapore?
The Singapore Academy of Law is the body which affixes the apostille.
